The RCSEd’s Dental Faculty has awarded prizes for exceptionally high quality papers at this year’s East of England Hospitals Junior Papers Day.
Held on 6 July at the British School of Racing in Newmarket, this year’s Faculty first-prize winners were: Niamh O’Rourke, SHO from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, for An Audit of Compliance with BAHNO Standards; Amaka Ngwuocha, SHO form the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, for her case report Bilateral Acoustic Neuroma; and Lauren Jessica Hardwick, SHO from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, for her poster presentation An Audit on Mental Capacity.

The professional excellence of trainees and dental care professionals (DCPs) in Wessex has been recognised in a prize day run by the College’s Dental Faculty.
Presentations of research projects, clinical audits and case reports were given by trainees and DCPs at the Wessex BDA Hospitals Group meeting in Basingstoke on 10 May.

Richard Palmer discusses the new dental education strategy
Over the last year the Dental Faculty has been reviewing the provision of dental education as part of the main College review of education. The Dental Faculty has always provided a good portfolio of educational activity to support its Fellows, Members and Diplomats, as well as preparatory courses for College examinations. However, with increasing demands and competition it is essential that this activity is increased and improved.

According to the examination regulations, ‘The MFDS examination is intended to provide evidence of knowledge, experience and clinical competence beyond that recognised by the primary dental qualification’.
