BDA 2011
Friday, 19 August 2011

The Dental Faculty was at this year’s BDA conference and exhibition, held at Manchester Central Convention Complex from 19-21 May

From undergraduates to leaders of the profession, over 4,500 dental professionals were at the annual BDA conference in May. Among the highlights was a visit from the Secretary of State for Health Andrew Lansley MP, who was one of many visitors to the RCSEd’s conference stand.

To represent the Faculty, Regional Dental Adviser Dr Mike Pemberton recruited local dental professionals, which allowed attendees to benefit from advice on career pathways and specialty-specific issues.

Vice Dean of the Faculty, Dr Ann Shearer gave a lecture on the increasingly popular MFDS examination. She began by explaining the role of the College and what it can do for students, dentists and specialists.

Dr Shearer highlighted that the purpose of the MFDS is to provide evidence of knowledge, experience and clinical competence beyond that recognised by the primary dental qualification, to a standard equivalent to that expected of an individual with two years’ postgraduate experience.

The College has already signed up for next year’s conference and exhibition which is being held in April in Manchester.

The Faculty would like to thank Mr Stuart Clark, Dr David Felix, Professor Fraser McCord, Dr Alex Milosevic, Miss Lorraine Molyneux, Dr Mike Pemberton, Dr Alison Qualtrough, Dr Ann Shearer and Professor Callum Youngson.
