The 2011 Annual Meeting of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) was held at the BT Convention Centre in Liverpool, 20-23 June 2011
This year’s BAUS conference marked the first time the meeting had been held at Liverpool’s Convention Centre and the new venue proved to be a big success with both delegates and exhibitors, attracting just over 1150 delegates over the four days and 82 exhibitors.
The strong programme welcomed both national and international speakers and a key feature of the BAUS meeting is the level of interaction it allows between speakers and delegates and the consistent feedback over the past few years has been that delegates greatly appreciate this opportunity.
‘BAUS made a positive effort to incorporate many overseas speakers into the 2011 programme together with a number of new initiatives’
Thus BAUS made a positive effort to incorporate many overseas speakers into the 2011 programme together with a number of new initiatives such as “Meet the Experts” and Videoposter sessions, all of which aimed to increase the level of interaction for delegates.
Highlights of the programme included themed days to accommodate the BAUS Sections, a BAUS Best Paper Session, training in endourology in the UK (including reducing complications in upper tract procedures) and state of the art lectures on revision surgery for penile prostheses, optimal management of the small renal cortical neoplasm and active surveillance for early stage prostate cancer. Topical issues considered were simulation in training and ‘The White Paper – What it means for us?’
Delegates enjoyed the entertainment provided in the social programme which included the Welcome Reception on the Monday evening in the Exhibition Hall and the evening event was a trip down the Mersey on an old Mersey ferry, with suitable musical accompaniment.
BAUS President, Mr Adrian Joyce commented: “Liverpool was an unqualified success both for the delegates and industry, such that it will be a regular conference venue for years to come”.
