Surgery was represented
at the Military
School of Dental Hygiene
graduation ceremony in
June 2007. The Regional
adviser, Nigel Taylor was
invited to present the RCSEd
Academic Medal to Corporal
Victoria Bull, Royal Air Force,
for the highest academic
achievement in the June 2006
examinations. The Military
School of Dental Hygiene is
based in Aldershot, Hampshire,
and is a Tri-Service
training establishment, with
students and staff from all
three of the Armed Forces;
the Royal Navy, the Army, and
the Royal Air Force. Students
sit their examinations in
Edinburgh but may not have
an opportunity to attend the
graduation ceremony, often
due to military postings.
Therefore, the decision was
made to bring the College to
the students.
The Graduation Ceremony
was held at the home of the
Defence Medical Services,
Keogh Barracks, in
Ash Vale, attended by
the Director Clinical
Services Defence
Dental Services, Air
Commodore D Amy
QHDS Royal Air
Force.
Fourteen students
graduated and
the ceremony was attended
by more than 120 guests
including families, friends, and
military personnel. The prize
winners from the class of 2007
were: Corporal Sarah Hynds,
Royal Army Dental Corps,
who achieved the highest
academic mark in the final
examination; Leading Dental
Hygienist Lindsey Lynch,
Royal Navy, who achieved the
highest mark in the clinical
presentations and final viva,
and Corporal Tara Pile, Royal
Air Force, who was awarded
the Tutors’ Prize for outstanding
coursemanship.
